Possessive Pronouns and Adjectives

Possessive pronouns and adjectives show who something belongs to.

This is my book. ‘My’ is a possessive adjective.

That book is mine. ‘Mine’ is a possessive pronoun.

The difference between a possessive pronoun and a possessive adjective is:

A possessive adjective is followed by a noun (the object).

For example: This is my book.

A possessive pronoun is NOT followed by a noun (the object).

For example: This book is mine.
