Phrasal Verbs - Introduction

Phrasal verbs are verbs made from a verb and a particle – usually a preposition.

For Example: get up, go out.

Phrasal verbs can have more than one preposition.

For example: Get on with, look forward to.

Phrasal verbs are very common in English and are used in spoken and written English. They are often used in more informal English but are common in business contexts and emails.

 Compare:

Please hand in all expenses forms by the 31st of the month.

Please submit all expenses forms by the 31st of the month.

Hand in is more informal than submit but is still appropriate in this sentence.
