Often when we ask questions, we are asking about the object
John met Mary. Who did John meet?
I went to Rome. Where did you go?
In this case, we change the word order of the question.
We don’t say: Who John did meet?
We say: Who did John meet?
The auxiliary verb (did) comes before the subject.
In a subject question, we are asking about the subject.
Ken is cleaning the car. Who is cleaning the car?
The meeting finished early. What finished early?
In this case, we DO NOT change the word of the question.
