The Past Perfect Simple |
I had (not) gone Had (not) + Past Participle |
We use the past simple to talk about an action in the past.
For example: I went out.
If we want to talk about an action that happens before another action in the past, we use the past perfect.
For example: I had called her before I went out.
Past perfect Past simple
We also use the past perfect rather than the past perfect continuous with verbs that cannot be used in the continuous.
For example: Verbs connected with: thought processes (know), desires (like), senses (smell)
