They tell us how frequently something happens.

How often do you go out on Saturday night?

I always go out on Saturday night.

Adverbs of Frequency – Word Order

Adverbs of frequency go after the verb to be.

I’m (not) always happy.

Adverbs of frequency go before all other verbs.

I always go out on Saturday.

In a sentence with a main verb and an auxiliary verb, the adverb goes before the main verb.

I have never been to Rome.

I didn’t often study when I was younger.
