To get used to is not a tense it is an expression. It is an action in progress.
Look at this example:
Li is from China. He came to England one week ago. Everything is very strange, unfamiliar and uncomfortable. So we can say:
Li is not used to life in England. Li is not used to living in England.
Now look at this example:
Guilia is from Italy. She has lived in the UK for six months. At first everything was very strange. Six months later some things are familiar to her now and some things are very strange. So we can say:
Not familiar |
She isn’t used to the weather. She isn’t used to taking an umbrella everywhere. |
Becoming familiar |
She is getting used to the food. She is getting used to eating English food. |
Familiar |
She is used to speaking English everyday. She has got used to speaking English everyday. |
To get used to talks about the process of becoming more familiar with something.
To got used to tells us the process of becoming familiar is finished. We are now familiar.
How to Form Get Used to
Get used to can be followed by a gerund (v.ing):
I am getting used to living here.
Or a noun.
I am getting used to the weather.
